Ivan Mykolayovych
Director
Ivan Mykolayovych Vyshnevskyi is director of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, head of the Nuclear Structure department of the Institute for Nuclear Research, NAS of Ukraine, Academician of NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, Professor. Ivan Mykolayovych was born in 1938 in Zhytomyr region. He is a well-known specialist at nuclear physics and energetics. He is founder of the scientific school on nuclear spectroscopy, an author and co-author of over 300 research papers, where four are monographs. I.M. Vyshnevskyi - Laureate of State Award of Ukraine in field of science and technique, Laureate of the Award named after K.D. Sinelnikov of thr NASU, Honored science worker of Ukraine.
The Institute for Nuclear Research (INR) was founded in 1970 on the base of a number of the Institute’s of Physics of AS UkrSSR departments, which were involved into the researches in the field of nuclear physics.
Academician of AS UkrSSR M.V. Pasichnyk was assigned the first director of the INR. Since 1974 the Institute was headed by Academician of AS UkrSSR O.F. Nimets, and since 1984 Prof. I.M. Vyshnevskyi was assigned the director of the INR.
About 800 research workers, among whom there is an Academician of NAS of Ukraine, a Corresponding Member of NAS of Ukraine, 42 Doctors of science and 155 Ph.D.’s, are working at 28 scientific and scientific and technical departments.
The experimental base of the Institute is presented by the unique nuclear physical facilities, which include: research nuclear reactor, "hot cells" for the work with high activity radioactive materials, cyclotrons U-240 and U-120, tandem-generator EGP-10K, electron accelerator. This allows to carry out wide-range of scientific research not only for the collaborators of the Institute but also for the workers of another scientific institutions.
The results of theoretical and experimental researches of the Institute in the fields of physics of atomic nucleus, nuclear reactions, nuclear spectroscopy and nuclear structure were recognized in the World. Significant results were obtained in the field of neutron physics, elementary particle physics, radiation physics and radiation material study, plasma physics, radio-ecology and radio-biology. Besides the fundamental works in the INR a great attention is given to the research results implementation into industry. In particular the modern dosimeter provision and the unique monitoring system of radiation pressure to the vessels of WWR-1000 reactors were created and implemented on Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) of Ukraine. This allowed receiving the information on high scientific technical level needed for accident free operation of nuclear energy units and effective control of their radiation resources. On the basis of this information the scientifically reasonable decisions are made whether the further exploitation is acceptable. The collaborators of the INR are carrying out researches on causes of radioactive crumbling of nuclear reacreactor constructional materials, on selection of new prospective materials for nuclear reactor building, on development and producing of semiconductor detectors, the techniques for improving of radiation resistance of materials, radioactive and plasma technology. Special attention is given to the study of nuclear fuel cycle enterprises impact (specifically of the NP Plants of Ukraine) on the ecosystems and people. Regular control on radioactive nuclides in the environmental components, evaluation of dose loads on human beings, radioactive ecological state of contaminated territories are carried out. Basing on the data, got by the scientists, base on data of parameters on radioactive state of land and water ecosystems components related to the NPP influence was developed and reliable maps of radioactive nuclides contamination territories in Ukraine in result of Chornobyl NNP catastrophe were made. The researchers of the Institute made a significant contribution into world science. Widely known scientific schools were created by the Academicians of NAS of Ukraine O.I. Leypunskyi, M.V. Pasichnyk, O.F. Nimets, I.M. Vyshnevskyi and Corresponding Members of NAS of Ukraine G. D. Latyshev and V. M. Strutinskyi. A number of the INR’s works were distinguished by international awards, State Awards of Ukraine and Awards of the Presidium of NASU named after well-known scientists. The Institute has wide range of international scientific contacts, maintains working contacts with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and participates in the work of coordinating Committees at Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine and NNEGC "Energoatom".
The INR initiates scientific conferences, magazine "Yaderna Phisyka ta Energetyka" ("Nuclear Physics and Atomic Energy") is published. The Ukrainian Informational Centre on Nuclear Science and Engineering (INIS), Sector of Nuclear Data and Training Centre on Physical Security, Registration and Control of Nuclear Material were created on the basis of the Institute.
The training of the staff through the post-graduate course is carried out. The Institute has a Specialized Counsel on defense of theses on such specialties as "Physics of nucleus, elementary particles and high energies" and "Fuel and nuclear energy facilities". Scientific potential of the Institute, its nuclear facilities allow the Institute to retain high scientific level of a leading nuclear centre in Ukraine. |
