Музей ім. Ф.П. Де-Волана заснований 10 квітня
1990 року. Був відкритий до 200-річного ювілею Одеси.
Він є єдиним музеєм в Україні, що відображає унікальну історію провідного порту країни, що має багаті історичні корені. Крім того, в ньому розкривається споконвічна історія Одеси і всього Північного Причорномор’я, що ставить його на рівень інших музеїв міста.
Експозиція музею розкриває всю багатогранну діяльність порту. Її оформлення і наукова концепція одержали схвалення багатьох установ, музеїв, фахівців і вчених не тільки України, але й Росії, Польщі, Греції, Франції. 3-й, 4-й, 5-й зали створені із застосуванням новітніх технологій, де представлені стародавня гравюра порту (13х2 м), макет порту (4х2 м) і лайтбокс-панорама сучасного порту (4х2 м). За роки свого існування музей поповнив історію раннього періоду будівництва порту, Одеси і краю новими даними. Вперше видана книга російською та англійською мовами, що відображає історію Одеського порту, - "Порт і Одеса. 200 років". Ця книга і донині залишається єдиною у своєму роді.
У музеї готується її доповнене перевидання. Знайдені в архівах Росії унікальні плани Ф.П. Де-Волана із будівництва і зміцнення порту, самої Одеси та інших міст України. Про їхнє існування не знали історики аж до кінця ХХ ст. На сьогодні експозиція музею складається з 5-ти залів загальною площею 490 кв. м.
Музей нагороджений Почесною відзнакою голови Одеської облдержадміністрації, а у 2004 р. отримав Міжнародну нагороду тисячоліття за збереження культурної світової спадщини.
"Таким чином, - як відзначає директор музею Глеб-Кошанська Тетяна Миколаївна, - музей за 14 років свого існування перетворився у структуру, що відіграє важливу роль у духовно-просвітницькому і культурному житті не тільки порту, а й усього міста".
The Odesa F.P. De-Volan Port Museum was established on April 10, 1990. It was opened to commemorate the 200th Odesa anniversary. It is the only one museum in Ukraine to depict the unique history of the leading state port, which has rich historical roots. Besides, the ancient history of Odesa and the whole Northern Black Sea region is shown in it placing it at one level with other museums of our country. The museum exhibition shows whole various port activity. Its design and scientific concept were approved by many institutions, museums, specialists and scientists not only of Ukraine but from abroad as well: Russia, Poland, Greece, France. The 3rd, 4th, 5th halls are created with application of advanced technologies, where the 13x2 m ancient engraving of port, 4x2 m port model, administration light box - 4x2 m modern port panorama are represented. During the years of its existence the museum filled the history of the early port building, Odesa and land with new data. For the first time the book in Russian and English was published depicting the Odesa port history - "Port and Odesa. 200 Years". This book is up to the present the only one in its sphere. The museum’s preparing its advanced re-edition. The unique plans of the F.P. De-Volan for building and fortification of port, Odesa itself and other cities of Ukraine were found in archives. About their existence nothing was known up to the end of the XX century. Today the exposition of museum is made up from 5 halls, on the total area of 490 sq. m.
The museum was awarded with "Honourable Sign" of the head of the Regional State Administration, and in 2004 it got the international millennium award for preservation of the world cultural heritage. Thus, as the museum director Hleb-Koshanska Tetyana Mykolayivna points out - the museum during 14 years of its existence was transformed into the structure with plays an important role in the spiritual and enlightening and cultural life not only of the port but of the whole city as well.
