The Town of Guliaipole is located in the valley of the river Haichur, which translated from Turkic, means a "free steppe". Southward in 99 km there is a regional centre of Zaporizhzhya, in the north it borders on Dnipropetrovsk region, in the east - with Donetsk region.
Guliaipole was founded in 1785 as a military suburb of the Dnieper strengthened line; it was divided into the 7 Cossack companies (sotnias): Bochanska, Verbivska, Pischanska, Podolianska, Polska, Khersonska and Hurianska. In 1923 Guliaipole received the status of a district centre.
Today the town numbers 16 thousand 700 habitants, the whole district numbers 30 thousand 800 persons.
The Huliaipolskyi district makes the basis of the agrarian power of Zaporizhzhya region with 20 agricultural enterprises and 50 farmer economies.
In the centre of the town there is a historical architectural ensemble of buildings, sanctified by the historical events related to the revolutionary activity of the legendary leader of peasant movement in the south of Ukraine (1918-1921) Nestor Makhno. The city has a breathing history, and that is why the district regional museum situated in the centenary building of the former mutual credit bank is an inalienable part of the Guliaipole heart.
The museum was founded on December 11, 1960. The exposition of the museum consists of 9 sections with the fund
