On September 20, 1980 Berezhany Museum of Local Lore was opened for visitors in the building of the ancient Town Hall. It is the first museum officially organized on the territory of the district, the founders of which at that time were the former administrative authorities, and the moderator is considered to be the member of the All-Ukrainian union of researchers of local lore, the honorary citizen of the city of Berezhany Stepan Dudar. At first this cultural and educational establishment was created as a historical museum of local lore, which in January, 1982 became the department of the Ternopil regional museum of local lore and changed its name for a modern one; and since 2002 - the structural subdivision of the department of culture and tourism of Berezhany district state administration.
Today the visitors are suggested to view the displays of the halls of nature, archaeology, ethnography, medieval history of the territory, the 200th anniversary of the Berezhany gymnasia, literary Berezhany district, the Ukrainian Zaporizhzhya Archery, history of the Plast, Second World War, OUN-UPA, cultural studies, National revival, traditional Ukrainian handicrafts, history of the deported Ukrainians, artistic department and the open air exhibition. There is also a library at the museum. All these halls are situated on the ground and the first floors of the city Town Hall.
Generally the exposition of the museum and the fund repository contain more than 13 thousand museum objects.
Since 1986 there has been functioning at the museum the Berezhany Embroideresses Club (the head is M. Harp’yuk), since 1991 - the "Lemkivschyna" society (the head is T. Tremba) and since 1995 - the Council of Berezhany Artists (the head is Z. Migotskyi).
The activity-types of the Berezhany Museum of Local Lore include the research and educational, scientifically-educative, exhibition work, as well as funding, exhibiting, publishing and economic works. The museum accordingly provides the visitors with such services, as guided tour servicing, video-filming and photographing in the display halls, usage of the library fund, usage of the fund materials, assessment of artistic works, provision of scientific consultations.
The Berezhany Museum of Local Lore was three times acknowledged the "Best museum of the region": in 2000, 2004 and 2005. Its personnel were more than once rewarded by the certificates and distinctions of the state, regional and district level, and also received two international certificates for participation in the seminar of the "Revival of local traditional culture in a museum exhibition" of the Culture Support Fund in the Eastern Europe.
On June 1, 1995 the personnel of the Berezhany Museum of Local Lore was headed by Halyna Brytska, the former teacher of history, member of the All-Ukrainian union of researchers of local lore, awarded governmental certificates and distinction at this position.
The development prospects of the Berezhany Museum of Local Lore can be outlined as:
• creation of restoration laboratory;
• founding of publishing of a museum herald;
• opening of the permanent department for demonstration of exhibits, highlighting the history of Turks staying in Ukraine;
• affiliation into the Berezhany Historical and Architectural Preserve with the purpose of the further development of tourist sphere in the region.
It is quite evident that for this purpose the museum needs investments that would also help in the fulfilment of fund materials, execution of restoration of several museum objects, purchase of modern equipment and major repairs of the city Town Hall - the architectural sight of the 19th century.
