Kharkiv regional production melioration and water economy department carries out on the territory of the region management of the water economy, organization of planned and rational water use, exploitation, examination and maintenance of the inter-economy melioration and water economy systems and objects and hydrotechnical buildings, provides solving of problems concerning exploitation of irrigation and drainage melioration systems, land-reclamations, solves together with executive power bodies and other departments the problems of providing of population and economy branches with water resources, conducts measures on warning of harmful influence of waters and liquidation of its consequences, performs the control functions in protection and rational use of water resources and control over observance by enterprises, establishments and organizations of water legislation requirements.
On balance of the regional water economy department there are 16 storage pools with the total area of 2972.7 ha and volume of 95.51 mln m3.
On the maintenance of the regional water economy department there are 1655 km of irrigation networks, 131 state pump stations with total power of 113 MWt and efficiency of 94 m3/c for water delivering to 82.4 thousand ha of irrigation lands. In the zones of the excessive moistening regional water economy department carries out drainage works.
The regional water economy department conducts measures for prevention of harmful influence of waters and improvement of rivers’ ecological state in the Kharkiv region.
The regional water economy department is a subject of the Kharkiv regional environmental monitoring system.
The Kharkiv regional water economy department provides services connected with water delivering to the legal and physical entities, including to the water economy systems, consultation concerning preparation of materials for getting of allowances and concordances, preparation and executing of technical conditions for conducting of works on lands of water fund and melioration systems, laboratory water and soil quality assessment, technical maintenance and repair of melioration network and buildings.
