__P.L. Shupyk National Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education is a leading establishment of post-qualifying medical education, the modern scientific and medical centre of the highest (IV) level of the accreditation, founded in 1918 as institute of improvement of doctors (in 1996 renamed into the Kiev medical academy of post-qualifying education). In March 2006 the academy was given the status of the National institution. NMAPE today it is 72 chairs where almost 650 teachers work , including 2 Heroes of Ukraine, 20 academicians and member-correspondents of NAS of Ukraine, AMS of Ukraine, more than 170 professors and doctors of sciences, 400 candidates of sciences and senior lecturers. More than 90 scientists of the academy have ranks of the honoured worker of science and engineering of Ukraine, the honored doctor of Ukraine, honored worker of people’s education of Ukraine, honored worker of health protection of Ukraine, the honored inventor and the rationalizer of Ukraine. The academy has six faculties: The general practice - family medicine, surgical, therapeutic, pediatric, medico-preventive and pharmaceutical, faculty of improvement of professional skills of teachers. In 2003 at the academy it was established Stomatology Institute. The academy has branches in Zhytomyr, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regional hospitals and in Truskavets the Lviv area. The primary goal of the academy is preparation and improvement of professional skills of doctors and pharmaceutists (over 20 thousand annually).
__Training at the academy is conducted according to the state order and contracts. New forms of post-qualifying training of doctors and pharmaceutists were introduced to the academy, in particular: preattested cycles, full-time and part-time training of doctors-interns, magistracy, cycles of the information and training, cycles of preparation of principals and teachers of medical universities (academies) of post-qualifying training of doctors. The newest technologies have been introduced, including elements of distant education, individual and tutoring training, as well as other technologies, which are actively implemented into by the principles of Bolonsky process. Scientific and pedagogical workers are trained through postgraduate study and doctoral studies. In P.L.Shupik National medical academy of post-qualifying training the big attention is given to medical-consultative work. Among 72 chairs of academy 53 are clinical. They are based in the establishments subordinated by the department of public health services and medical maintenance of Kyiv city and Kyiv regional state administrations, to Ministry of Health and other departments. It is important that 13 chairs are located at 13 institutes of AMS of Ukraine where scientific potential of a medical science is concentrated. The total number of clinical bases of all patterns of ownership makes 101, their power exceeds 10 thousand hospital beds. Annually on clinical bases it is carried out more than 18 thousand surgical operations, 180 thousand consults and 40 thousand patients are treated. Communications of the academy with other countries extend every year. More than 70 scientists annually visit foreign countries. Trips are made on purpose of training in leading clinics of the West, for an exchange of experience, adjustment of business contacts, participation in the inflaming congresses, workshops. Young scientists of the academy pass training in leading clinics of France, Poland, the USA, the Great Britain etc. Annually from 30 to 50 foreign delegations visit the academy. A number of agreements on cooperation with the different countries of the world are signed.
__Thanks to high scientific achievements the academy reached an international scene. Now its collective co-operates with different foreign scientific institutions and educational medical institutions. Annually more than three hundred foreigners from 54 countries of the world are students of clinical internship, postgraduate study, magistracy and courses training. The academy was the first of medical higher educational establishments of Ukraine which became a collective member of International Personnel Academies (UNESCO). Together with American international public health services union at the academy there had been founded the Resource centre of preparation of specialists on AIDS/HIV infection under the management of WOHC. Together with Kyiv-Mohylyansk academy and the Maastricht university (Netherlands) it was founded School of public health. Along with International Solomon university the preparation of lawyers for public health services system has been conducted. At support of the Zurich University it was founded the International Center of genetic researches. At financings and support of the Laureate of Alternative Nobel Prize of George’s Vutilkas (Greece) it was founded the International school of classical homoeopathy. Foreign partners of the academy are: Royal college of doctors of general practice (Great Britain), Lublin medical academy (Poland), College of optometry in Pennsylvania (USA), Colorado university of traumatology and orthopedics (USA), German international academy of development rehabilitation (Munich), the International Academy of Classical Homeopathy (Greece), University Ludvig-Maksimilian in Munich (Germany), Silesia medical academy (Poland), Institute of genetics of the Zurich University (Switzerland), Iowa State University (USA), University of Bari (Italy), the Belarus medical academy of post-qualifying education, the International medical academy of Albert Schweitzer and others. Outstanding scientists of Greece, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland are honourable doctors and professors of the academy. The academy acts as a co-organizer of the Association "Medinformatika" with representation in Canada, the USA, Germany, Vietnam, China and Bulgaria. |
