__The institute of a fish economy of the Ukrainian academy of agrarian sciences (IFE UAAS) has been created in 1930. The collective of the institute is headed by the candidate of agricultural sciences, the honored worker of agriculture I.I. Hrytsynyak. Structure of IFE UAAS includes the Lviv research station, a network of regional laboratories and research economies in Kiev and Lviv oblast. The basic directions of research-and-production activity of institute are improvement of breeding-and-genetic bases of domestic fish economy and maintenance of the fishing enterprises of Ukraine with elite breeding material of carp; development of progressive technologies of artificial reproduction and cultivation of fishes; creation of new perspective kinds of fishes for own requirements of aquaculture; development of methods of rational feeding of fishes; improvement of the ways of preventive maintenance and illness control of fishes; and studying and improvement of ecological position of continental reservoirs; complex researches of increase of efficiency of use of fish stocks of Dnipro water basins; saving of a genofund of rare and vanishing species of fishes; economic researches of the fishing enterprises of different patterns of ownership. Among large scientific achievements of the institute it is necessary to tell about creation of two more breeds and three internal breeding types of the Ukrainian carps, which form the basic file in modern carp economy of Ukraine. The institute develops methods of a complex intensification of pond fish culture, efficiency increase of activity of fish economy at conditions of market economy, improvement of technology of cultivation of a high-quality commodity of market economy and plant eating fishes for profitability of manufacture 30-40 %. Biological bases of cultivation of paddle-fish are developed, that will lead to distribution in Ukraine of a new direction of commodity sturgeon breeding. High-efficiency breeding herds of the Ukrainian carps, the Amur sazan, a channel catfish, an iridescent trout, target collection herds of rare and vanishing species of fishes (grayling, the Dunai salmon, a sterlet) have been generated. Methods of preservation of fishes in aquaculture with use of treatment-and-prophylactic preparations to new generation have been improved . The great value for the further effective development of fish culture will be brought by final developments of institute on use of nontraditional fodder raw materials and biologically active preparations in recipes of fish mixed fodders. The institute actively develops the international cooperation with scientific institutions of Poland, Hungary, Czech, the USA, Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Croatia, Vietnam and others. IFE UAAS is a co-founder of Networks of scientific centers of aquaculture in the countries of Eastern Europe (NАСЕЕ), a member of the European society of aquaculture.
