__ Bulat Anatoliy Fedorovych is an academician of NAS of Ukraine (2000), academician-secretary of Branch of Mechanics at NAS of Ukraine, the member of Presidium of NAS of Ukraine and HCC of Ukraine, the head of Interdepartmental scientific council "Scientific bases of coal deposits development in Ukraine" at Presidium of NAS of Ukraine, minerals and coal production of Ukraine and State Geology Council of Ukraine. The President of the Association of authors of scientific discoveries of Ukraine, a member of the Committee of the State awards of Ukraine in the field of science and technology. Honored worker of science and technology. Winner of the State award of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, awards of NAS of Ukraine of O.M. Dynnyk. Was awarded the reward "For merits" of III degree, honorable medal of authors of discoveries and inventors "For merits in business of invention of A.S. Popov", medal "Leader of the 21st century", honorable diploma "Best scientist of Prydneprovie", charter "Miner’s valour", the gentleman of sign "Miner’s glory". All his scientific-organizational work is connected with Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics of M.S. Polyakov which he heads since 1992.

__The outstanding scientist in the field of mountain mechanics, namely mechanics of rocks and mechanics of destruction of files of rocks as environments with an active stock of internal energy.

__Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics of M.S.Polyakov of NAS of Ukraine was founded in 1962.

__The main directions of scientific researches: properties of rocks and massifs, their destruction and management of intense-deformed condition; physical grounds of mountain-technical processes, technique and technology of extraction and processing of minerals; processes and technologies of transformation into energy of coal and mine methane, functioning parameters and structure of power complexes, power saving and reliability of mountain manufactures.

__His major works are noted with 9 State awards of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, 5 awards of NAS of Ukraine of O.M.Dynnyk, award of Russian Federation of O.O. Skochynskyi, award of NAS of Ukraine of V.I. Vernadskyi, international award "Torch of Birmingham", diploma of the International Academy of Business and Administration Leaders, diploma of the winner of the Forum of miners in 2005 in the nomination "Leading Institute of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine".

__Polyakov Mykola Sergiyovych (1902-1991)

__Academician of AS USSR (1967). Honored worker of science of USSR in 1978. He has state awards.

__The founder and the first director of Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics.

__An outstanding scientist in the field of mountain mechanics, the organizer of higher school and academic mountain science.

__Main scientific activity: development of physical grounds of theory and work of mountain transportation machinery, new methods of their calculations, mechanization of mountain works at the underground and open ways of deposits development. He has created a scientific school in the area of mine transport.

__Poturaev Valentyn Mykytovych (1922-2003)

__Academician of NAS of Ukraine (1979). Honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine. Winner of state awards of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, awards of Ministerial council of the USSR, award of NAS of Ukraine of O.Dynnyk. Honorable professor of National Mountain University. The head of the Prydneprovskyi Centre of Science (1976-1985), a member of Presidium of NAS of Ukraine (1978-1985). Participant of Great Patriotic War. Has the state awards. Worked at the Institute between 1966-2003. (1975-1992 as a Director, 1992-2003 as an Honorable director).

__Famous scientist in the field of mountain mechanics. Main scientific activity: dynamics of heavy cars, applied mechanics of rubber, theory and use of vibration effects.
