__He was born on August 24, 1941 in Zasullya of Lubensky region of Poltava oblast.

__Laureate of the State award of Ukraine in science and technics of Ukraine (1993) and V.I. Vernadsky’s award of NAS of Ukraine (2003). He is the famous Ukrainian geographer, his scientific interest is the theory and methodic of geographic cartography, in particular, atlas mapping, economic and social geography, rational and regional nature use, environmental protection and monitoring, geographic basis of balanced development of Ukraine and its regions. He is the author of over 500 scientific works, including 17 monographies, 14 complete atlases, 12 brochures. He is the scientific editor and the co-author of the National Atlas of Ukraine, the editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian Geographic Magazine.

__Mainstreams of scientific investigations are: development of theoretical bases of fundamental geographic researches; finding out general tendencies of nature changes and regularity of landscape and its element formation; transformation investigation of branch and territorial structure of Ukrainian economy; working out of directions of balanced development of Ukraine and its regions; cartography investigations of nature, society and their interaction.

__The Institute of Geography cooperates with national and foreign institutions of the same profile. The institute has 106 employees, among them - 38 scientific workers, 11 Doctors and 24 Candidates of sciences; 2 corresponding members of the National Academy of Ukraine.
