__He was born in 1934. Academician of NAS of Ukraine (1990), Doctor of engineering sciences, Professor, the laureate of Y.I. Frenkel and I.M. Frantsevych scientific awards, the award of G.V. Samsonov International institute of sintering, honored worker of science and technics - the outstanding scientist in the field of modern materials technology. His scientific activity which throughout 50 years is closely connected with IPMT of NANU, substantially assisted transformation of the institute into the world famous centre of modern materials technology.

__V.V. Skorokhod’s scientific researches devoted to the theoretical description of physical and rheological properties of powder heterogeneous materials taking into account their real structure, are based on last achievements of physics of metals and mechanics of deformation of a solid body. His approach to development of materials for the newest technics is based on deep understanding of physical phenomena and their exact quantitative description.

__Based on the results of experiments he has built the phenomenological theory of deformation of porous materials, has developed clear conception about sintering as a rheological process connected with the mechanism of superplastic and absorption-astringent fluidity, has developed methods of calculation of physicomechanical properties of multiphase isotropic and non-isotropic solid bodies.

__V.V. Skorokhod is one of the initiators of introduction in NAS of Ukraine of two target complex programs of scientific researches "Nano-structural systems, nano-materails, nano-technologies" and "Fundamental problems of hydrogen energetics".

__The history of Institute for Problems of Materials Science begins since 1952 when the independent Laboratory of special alloys of AS of the Ukr.SSR has been created. Its founder was the famous scientist, the head of chair of physical chemistry of Kyiv University, corresponding member of AS of the Ukr.SSR, the laureate of the State award of the USSR Ivan Nykytovych Frantsevych. In 1955 this laboratory has been reorganized into the Institute of Metal Ceramics and Special Alloys of AS of the Ukr.SSR. Since 1964 it has the name of the Institute for Problems of Materials Technology. The institute performs basic investigations and technological workings out in areas: powder metallurgy and composite materials; physical chemistry of inorganic compounds and chemistry of solid body; soldering of diverse materials; physics of solid body; physics of phases of high pressure; physics and chemistry and technology of constructional and functional ceramics; nano-structural materials, etc.

__Today at the Institute there are 4 academicians, 6 corresponding members of NAS of Ukraine.

__Anatoly Kostornov

__He was born in 1937. Doctor of engineering sciences, Professor, laureate of the State award of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. Laureate of the State award of Ukraine and the scientific award of I.M. Frantsevych, the honored worker of science and technics - the famous scientist in the field of powder and fiber metallurgy, composite materials.

__Serhiy Firstov

__He was born in 1940. Professor, Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences. Laureate of the State award of Ukraine and scientific awards of E.O. Paton, D.K. Chernov and V.I. Trefilov - the recognized specialist in area of physics of strength and the structural analysis of perspective materials.

__He was born in 1944. The famous scientist in the field of materials technology, structural analysis of materials, physics and mechanics of contact strength.

__Heorhiy Hnesin

__He was born in 1932. Laureate of the State award of Ukr.SSR, twice winner of the State award of Ukraine, the winner of the scientific award of I.M. Frantsevych.

__The main scientific direction of his researches connected with development of physical and chemical bases and technological processes of getting not oxidic ceramic materials.

__H.H. Hnesin paid much attention to creation and scientific editing of the fundamental encyclopedic edition "Inorganic for Materials Science" first volume of which has been published in 2007, and the second - will be published in 2008.

__His scientific works devoted to key problems of physics of strength are marked as all-round experimental studying of structure and properties of materials with use of a complex of modern techniques and deep theoretical understanding of the received results.
