__Viacheslav Puzikov was born on August, 14th, 1947 in Kupiansk of Kharkiv oblast.

__In 1970 he has graduated from radio physical faculty of Kharkiv State University.

__Since 2004 - the director of the Institute for Single Crystals of NAS of Ukraine.

__Corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine (2003), the winner of the State award of Ukraine in the field of science and technics (2003).

__The expert in the sphere of physics of solid body and physical materials technology. The circle of his scientific interests covers problems of obtaining, research of properties and practical use of laser, nonlinear-optical and semiconductive crystal materials. He has over 160 published scientific works, 3 monographies, 25 patents and copyright certificates for inventions. Under his scientific management 4 theses for a doctor’s degree were defended. The Institute for Single Crystals of NAS of Ukraine is one of the basic institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine of materials technology profile. Main directions of scientific activity of the Institute are: working out of highly effective, resourse-saving technologies of obtaining of materials and functional elements for optical and laser instrument making, medicine, etc., in particular nano-materials; basic researches of physical and physical-and-chemical properties of materials; research in the field of the theory of the nonlinear phenomena, transport and structure formation in the condensed conditions of substance; modernization, designing and creation of new kinds of the process equipment for getting crystal materials.

__Scientists of the Institute offered and realized the original idea of growth process for large sapphire monocrystals in size of 250х250х30 мм3 in protective gas atmosphere with use of metallurgical alumina as initial raw material. The new generation of plants for single crystal growth has been developed, the largest in Europe manufacture of sapphire crystals has been founded.

__At the Institute there are 213 employees, in particular 61 scientific employees (14 doctors of sciences and 33 candidates of sciences), among which there is academician of NAS of Ukraine V.P. Semynozhenko, corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine V.M. Puzikov, corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine O.V. Tolmachov, two corresponding members of the Academy of Technological Sciences of Ukraine.

__Employees of the Institute annually publish over 70 scientific works and some monographies in professional magazines of close and far abroad.

__The Institute for Single Crystals of NAS of Ukraine fruitfully cooperates with the leading centres of science of Europe, Russia, the USA, China, Japan. Projects on scientific grants UNTC, CRDF, NATO and others are carried out.
