__The director of Institute Y.P. Korchevoi is the doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor, academician of NAS of Ukraine.

__The founder of school in the field of research of physical and chemical processes in low-temperature plasma of alkaline metals, the co-author of discovering "Phenomenon of formation of photoresonant plasma".

__The winner of the State award of Ukraine in the field of science and technics.

__The Coal Energy Technology Institute of NASU is a research establishment which performs fundamental and applied researches in power area, which is located on the territory of the first power station of alternating current of Kyiv which has been constructed in 1898. Created on the basis of the Department of high-temperature transformation of energy of Institute for Energy Conservation of NAS of Ukraine as a Scientific and technical centre of coal energy technologies. It has the modern name since 2002.

__Scientific structure - 40 scientific employees, among them there is 1 academician of NAS of Ukraine, 1 corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine, 4 doctors of sciences, 17 candidates of sciences.

__The institute develops highly effective ecologically pure technologies of burning and gasification of domestic coal for the purpose of its use in energetics of Ukraine; performs heat - and electrical and physical researches directed to increase of efficiency of transformation of thermal energy into electric; develops and introduces modern methods of diagnostics and prevention of harmful emissions of coal power stations into environment.

__Low-consumption technologies of increase of efficiency of coal burning, technology of sulfur-refinement of exhaust gases, and also control systems of structure of dust and gas emissions for TPS are developed at the Institute.

__During last 10 years within the limits of working out of new coal technologies for thermal power stations the institute fruitfully cooperated with wide-known boiler building and engineering firms: Babcock & Wilcox, National Energy Technology Laboratory (USA); Alstom, Charbonage de France Ingenierie (France); Lurgi Lentjes (Germany); КЕМА (Netherlands); VTI, IVTRAN (Russia); Mitsui Babcock and Hitachi Babcock, etc.
