__

__Emlen Volodymyrovych Sobotovych is a world-known scientist-geochemist; he coordinates scientific researches in Ukraine on problems of radioactive waste origin, geochemistry and radiogeochemistry while being: a head of the Inter-department Scientific Council on problems of behaving with radioactive waste; a head of Expert Council on general problems of exclusion zone of Chornobyl Atomic Power Station under the Ministry of Emergencies and Population Protection from Chornobyl Accident After-Effect of Ukraine; a member of active committee of NASU on liquidation of Chornobyl accident after-effect and its expert on geochemistry problems; a member of Inter-department committee on maintenance of Complex Program of behaving with radioactive waste under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine; a member of Expert Council NAEK "Energoatom".

__The Institute of Environmental Geochemistry is an assignee of the State Scientific Centre of Environmental Geochemistry created in 1996 on the basis of the Environmental Geochemistry Department and the Metallogeny Department of the Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Ore-Formation of NAS of Ukraine. Since 2004 the Institute has been a part of the Department of Nuclear Physics and Power Engineering of NAS of Ukraine.

__Double submission (NAS of Ukraine and ME of Ukraine) makes the thematic of fundamental and applied researches of the Institute:

__- Geochemistry, radiogeochemistry and space chemistry;

__- Technogenic and ecological safety;

__- Ore-formation and mineralogy;

__- Scientific support of nuclear combustible cycle;

__- Mathematic designing and forecasting of natural technogenic processes.

__In its structure the Institute has such scientific departments: nuclear geochemistry and space chemistry (the head - academician of NAS of Ukraine E.V. Sobotovych); geosphere thermodynamics (the head - corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine R.Y. Bekevtsev); space ecology and space mineralogy (the head - V.P. Semenenko); ecological safety problems (the head - corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine H.V. Lysychenko); ecosystem radiogeochemistry (the head - H.M. Bondarenko); technogenesis geochemistry (the head - V.B. Koval); biogeochemistry (the head - V.V. Dolin); nuclear and physical technologies (the head - Y.L. Zabulonov).

__IEG coordinates scientific activity of the Institutes of NAS of Ukraine within scientific-technical program of NAS of Ukraine on liquidation of after-effect of Chornobyl accident. The main Institute scientific developments have patent security. According to the work result in 2006 the Institute had 3 requests for patent and got 2 patents, in 2007 - it got 4 patents of Ukraine.

__In 2006 the Institute published 6 monographies which was presented on CD in Ukrainian, Russian and English. There were published 152 articles (among them 29 - in foreign editions, 22 - in CIS countries and 7 - in near abroad countries).

__The Institute has over 500 employees, including 2 academicians and 3 corresponding members, 96 co-workers.

__Yevhen Kulish

__Academician of NAS of Ukraine (2006)

__The head of department of metallogeny and mineral resources, the deputy head of the National Committee of Geologies of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in science and engineering, Honorable subsoil explorer of Ukraine. Corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Science of Ukr.SSR. Mainstreams of activity: geology and metallogeny of structural and formation complexes; ore-formation problems in metamorphic and sedimentary complexes; geology and genesis of minerals deposits; condition analysis, development perspectives. Author of 478 scientific works, including 45 monographies, maps and preprints. The editor of 46 collections of scientific works and monographies.

__Heorhiy Lysychenko

__Corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine (2006)

__A famous scientist in mathematic designing of natural and technological processes, radioecology and nuclear power engineering, Doctor of engineering sciences. Was born in 1947, graduated from geological faculty of Kyiv Shevchenko National University (1970).

__Mainstreams of his activity: problem solution in energetic objects safety, including APS and other objects of infrastructure of nuclear combustible cycle that covers problems of nuclear, radiation, technical and ecological functioning, also while emergencies. He took active part in liquidation of after-effect of Chornobyl APS, in 1986 (June-September) headed the command staff of the AS of Ukr.SSR in Chornobyl.

__Since 2004 until now he has been a member of bureau of department of nuclear physics and power engineering of NAS of Ukraine. Since 2007 he has been the head of Expert Council of ME of Ukraine. He published 205 works, including 7 monographies and 9 inventions.

__Rudolph Belevtsev

__Corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine (1990)

__Famous geochemist, Doctor of geological-mineralogical sciences, Professor, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine and Vernadsky’s prize.

__Was born in 1937. Graduated from geological faculty of Kyiv State University in 1959 and worked in its scientific sector. He has worked in NAS since 1962. Mainstreams of activity: physics-chemistry petrology of crystal stones of Pre-Cambrian and bottom of the World Ocean;

__geochemistry and thermodynamics of metabolic process in Earth’s crust, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere under influence of natural and ethnogenic factors. The author of about 150 scientific works, including 14 monographies.

__Yury Melnyk

__Corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine (1979)

__The head of department of ecological safety problems (1996-2003). Famous scientist in Earth studies, Doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences. Was born in 1931. He had analyzed a complex geochemical cycle of iron and oxide of silicon in Pre-Cambrian and developed accumulative biogeochemical model of creation of Pre-Cambrian ferruginous stones and ores. Was awarded Vernadsky prize of AS of Ukr.SSR (1972), Honorable certificate of the All-Union Mendeleyev Chemical Association, the State Prize of Ukraine in science and engineering (1998).

__Since 1977 till 1987 - a member of Bureau and deputy academician-secretary of the department of Earth sciences of AS of Ukr.SSR. President of the Ukrainian Mineralogical Association (1995-1999). Author of about 200 works, including 12 monographies.
