__

__Romanenko Victor is an academician of NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of biological science, Professor.

__He was born on November 30, 1930 in Chernihiv.

__Academician V. Romanenko is an outstanding scientist in the sphere of hydrobiology. He has made a significant contribution to the study of metabolism mechanisms of hydrocole adaptation to the variation of physicochemical conditions of water environment, development of fundamental basis of tendencies in biotechnology, related to cultivation of hydrocole in regulated systems of water treatment focused on biological raw material receipt and renovation of water quality.

__Professor V. Romanenko is the author of more than 325 scientific publications, including 15 monographs and text-books for higher education institutions "Fundaments of Hydro-Ecology".

__V. Romanenko is twice laureate of the National Prize of Ukraine in science and technology, reward of NAS of Ukraine of V. Uriev, of I. Shmalgauzen. Rewarded an order "Honor Sing", "National Friendship", Honorable charter of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, medals, a title "Honored worker of science and technology of Ukraine".

__Institute of Hydrobiology was established in 1940.

__Nowadays Institute of Hydrobiology of NAS of Ukraine is the leading scientific hydro-ecological center of Ukraine, and has great experience in complex hydro-biological, hydro-chemical, radio-ecological, ecology-hydrological researches of freshwater ecosystems of various types.

__In has 8 scientific departments, 4 laboratories, unique biotechnological complex, 2 hydro-biological stations, research fleet, scientific library, editing and publishing department.

__Scientific work is performed in following directions:

__- Research of main mechanisms of freshwater ecosystems functioning which are focused on condition management, water quality and bio-productiveness;

__- Research of migration processes, transformation and biological influence of radionuclide hydrocole and chemical pollutions of water-basins;

__- Development of scientific evaluation basis and prediction of condition of ichthyofauna under influence of natural and anthropogenic factors and methods of intended formation in water-basins of various types concentrated of gene pool preservation of valuable and disappearing types of fish and species diversity and increase of fish-productiveness.

__- Development of ecology-biological foundations of hydrocole cultivation.

__Within international partnership the Institute takes leading positions in realization of international program PROON-GEF ecological renovation of Dnieper basin on the territory of three countries: Ukraine, Byelorussia and Russian Federation, project development, which are generalized in chain of collective monograph works.
