__Matveeva Lesya Vasylivna is the famous expert in history of science, history of the East, a historiography and source study. She has made the powerful contribution to working out of priority subjects "History of All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences", confirmed by Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The author of over 200 scientific works, among which there are 10 individual monographies and 19 monographies published in the co-authorship.

__In 1998 she has headed A.Y. Krymskyi Institute for East Studies.

__Honored worker of science and technics of Ukraine. The winner of the award of A. Krymskyi of NAS of Ukraine (2004).

__Monographic works of Lesya Matveeva: "A.Y. Krymskyi - Indispensable Secretary of All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Selected Correspondence" (1997), "Yulian Kulakovskyi" (2002), "Essays From History of All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences" (2003), "V.P. Buzeskul - the Historian of His Time" (2007) devoted to the history of formation of domestic studies and became a considerable contribution to development of East studies in Ukraine.

__A.Y. Krymskyi Institute for East Studies of NAS of Ukraine, founded on October 22, 1991, today is a leading institution in Ukraine which investigates a wide range of problems of East studies science.

__The basic directions of activity of the Institute at the present stage: research of history, language, material and spiritual culture of the countries of the East; history, language and culture of the people of east origin which lived or continue to live on the territory of modern Ukraine; a modern condition of social and economic development of the countries and East regions; history of East studies in Ukraine, the scientific inheritance of academician A. Krymskyi; complex studying of memos of east script, including east sources of history of Ukraine; Ukraine and the East countries: intercivilized dialogue in a context of global transformation processes.

__The scientifically-organizational structure of the Institute is presented by 4 scientific departments: historiography and source studies, the classical East, the Far East, and the modern East.

__At the Institute there has been started new series of editions "Scientific Inheritance of East Specialists" in which the scientific finishings of the scientists-Orientals forgotten or deleted from the Ukrainian history are investigated. Recently "Epistolary Inheritance of Ahatanhel Krymskyi (1890-1941)" was published in two volumes; the rare East studying works A. Krymskyi on Arab, Turk and Iran studies have been republished.
