__History of city water-supply began in 1914.

__Since that day and up to the present the CE "Cherkasy Vodokanal" grew into a powerful modern enterprise, where leading technologies are introduced, experience of similar enterprises is studied and used.

__For today CE "Cherkasy Vodokanal" means: The Dnipro water-treatment station with capacity of 115000 m3/day; 38 artesian wells with capacity of 20800 m3/day; 450 km of plumbing networks and waterways; 253 km of drainage networks and main collectors; 127 step-up pump stations; 13 district drainage pump stations; 16 transformer substations; 70 km of electric networks. The main city water-supply source is the Dnipro, auxiliary one - Vilshanka river and artesian wells.

__The main activity direction of CE "Cherkasy Vodokanal" is drinking-water production, transporting and delivery to consumers. The enterprise provides users with drinking-water which quality met the State Standard of Ukraine 2874-82 "Drinking Water" after all indexes. Introduction of chlorine automatic dosage line at the Dnipro water-treatment station in complex with ammonation contributes to it, considerably reducing water contamination with chlorine organic compounds harmful for the human organism and environment, as well as drinking-water flocculation on the basis of "Magnafloc-25" flocculating agent.

__For further improvement of drinking-water quality and prolonging of exploitation term of plumbing networks, pH level stabilization in drinking-water was introduced. For fulfillment of analyses on organic components content in water (chloroform and pesticides) new laboratory equipment was brought into action - chromatospectrometer of "Varian" firm.

__To save electric power one conducts:

__- pump equipment modernization (replacement of pump aggregates and application of regulated electric gear);

__- automation of technological processes;

__- work optimization of the pump stations and water network.

__Due to cooperation with the Kharkiv Center of Ecology Problems, research of modern water consumption level, development of scientifically grounded norms of specific water consumption of Cherkasy population and power audit was conducted, and long-term energy saving program was developed.

__Development perspectives: building completion of the 2nd turn of the Dnipro water-treatment station (DWS); reconstruction completion of the chlorination pump station of the 3rd uplifting; building of the main drainage pump station; reconstruction of main drainage collector.

__CE "Cherkasy Vodokanal" needs investments. Approximate cost of building: of main drainage collector - 15 mln UAH; the main drainage pump station - 9 mln UAH; the 2nd turns of the Dnipro water-treatment station - 25 mln UAH; the reconstruction of chlorination station - 1 mln UAH.

__Now CE "Cherkasy Vodokanal" is working at solution problem questions directed: at the drinking-water quality improvement, both surface, and underground sources, by means of their aftertreatment; at economical electric power consumption.

__To that end replacement of pump aggregates with more economical ones possessing high coefficient of efficiency is carried out.

__Introduction of regulation of three-phase engine revolutions at all pump stations which constantly work with shift restricted hour water feed during the day is planned.
