__Kozak V.S. is a member of collegium of the State Water Economy Committee of Ukraine, deputy head of Ukrainian Part of Joint Ukrainian-Polish Boundary Waters Commission, the deputy commissioner of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

__On August 27, 1954 was created the Lviv Regional Melioration and Water Economy Department.

__MAIN ACTIVITY DIRECTIONS

__1. Realization of unified technical policy in the water economy and land-reclamation melioration sphere, providing of needs of population and economy branches in water resources, introduction of science and technology achievements, newest technologies, leading experience.

__2. Organization of exploitation of the intereconomy meliorative systems and separate objects of engineering infrastructure, which are state owned. Provision, on contractual terms, of practical help to the land owners, agrarian formations on exploitation, repair of internal economy network.

__3. Organization of fulfillment of the long-term government, regional Complex programs concerning protection from water harmful action of rural settlements, engineering communications, agricultural lands and other objects, land-reclamation development and improvement of the ecological state of the drained lands.

__4. Conducting of the measures connected to prevention of water harmful action and liquidation of their consequences, including antiflood protection of rural settlements and lands in the influence zone of water objects.

__5. Control over rational use of water resources and organization of measures on their recreation, including:

__- development and participation in realization of the state, intergovernmental and regional programs of waters use and protection and recreation of water resources;

__- realization of measures of surface waters’ ecological recreation and care about them;

__- control over keeping to the work mode of storage pools and water economy systems, adoption of rules of their exploitation;

__- realization of inspector functions concerning keeping to the requirements of the Water Code of Ukraine by the local self-governmental bodies, physical and legal persons, the subjects of menage of all property forms.

__6. International cooperation with Polish republic on antiflood protection, regulation and land-reclamations and planning of boundary waters.

__In the region there are 513.2 thousand ha of drained lands, including 390 thousand ha of tile drainage. On the balance of the Lviv Regional Melioration and Water Economy Department there are 8227 km of canals of inter economy state network, 4866 hydrotechnical buildings in open network, 103.2 km of operating roads, 17 pump stations, 748 km of diked dams, 81 km of shore protection, 373 falls, weirs, inclined falls, thresholds along the mountain rivers of the region.

__The total worth of general funds on balance of Lviv Regional Melioration and Water Economy Department makes 253.9 mln UAH.

__In the general complex of natural resources of the region water resources are a ponderable constituent. The main water quantity is formed in the rivers of the region, there are 8950 of them with total length of 16343 km, among them 242 small rivers which are more than 10 km long running for 5535 km, 8943 brooks running for 10808 km and over 1000 springs.

__On the territory of the region there are 21 storage pools with the total capacity of 86.01 mln cubic metres, with water level area of 41.45 sq. km, 2095 ponds with the capacity of 220.46 mln cubic metres, with water level area of 10309.54 ha, used for fishery, water-supply, watering of the drained lands and as antiflood ones.

__Lviv Regional Melioration and Water Economy Department performs its functions in accordance with Statute, realizes the state policy in water economy sphere on Lviv territory.

__The Lviv Regional Production Water Economy Department offers cooperation and services in accordance with functional plenary powers.
